COMPONENT 1: RUNWAY SAFETY & RESILIENCE

Component Objective

To enhance the safety, reliability, and climate resilience of the UVF runway by upgrading critical infrastructure to meet ICAO standards and ensure continuous, secure airport operations.

Component Activities

This section outlines the key activities to be implemented under this component.

Runway Rehabilitation: Full reconstruction of the runway using durable, resilient materials to support long-term performance under increasing climate pressures and traffic demands.

Lighting & Markings: Installation of modern, energy-efficient LED runway and taxiway lighting, along with standardized ICAO-compliant markings to enhance visibility and aircraft guidance.

Safety Areas: Construction of paved stopways and Runway End Safety Areas (RESAs) to improve safety margins for aircraft during landing and takeoff operations.

Drainage Improvements: Upgraded airfield drainage systems designed to mitigate flooding risks, reduce water accumulation, and maintain runway operability during extreme weather events.

Fire Rescue Upgrade: Modernization of Fire Rescue facilities, equipment, and response infrastructure to improve emergency response capabilities in line with ICAO requirements.
